No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu
No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, or No-Gi Submission Grappling, uses many of the traditional techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but does so without the use of the gi.
Without the gi, students and competitors are able to move more quickly and freely, and you may find that it is quite difficult to secure meaningful grips on an opponent without the collars and sleeves that you are used to grabbing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class. These subtle differences offer a more dynamic practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and better incorporate techniques and tactics from other sports such as Wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts.
Consistent with our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes, a No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu class at Modern Martial Arts and Fitness will feature a brief aerobic warm-up where you will prepare your body for exercise while simultaneously becoming familiarized with many of the essential movements performed in No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu techniques. This warm-up will be followed by a demonstration of several Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques, which will then be practiced by all of the class participants. Finally, the last portion of the class will allow for the testing of techniques in live sparring, performed at a safe and controlled pace. Please note that live sparring is never required, and students may always choose to use this time to continue practicing techniques with a partner, if they so choose.
