Wrestling
Wrestling classes at Modern Martial Arts and Fitness are designed to teach students how to ground an opponent through the use of tackles, throws, and sweeps, to be used in conjunction with the skills acquired from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu classes.
Techniques are taught with the potential of joint locks and strangles in mind and are designed to give those practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu an edge over other Jiu-Jitsu practitioners who may not be adequately skilled in the ability to take their opponents to the ground. These classes feature many techniques from folk style and freestyle wrestling while adapting them to scenarios common in self-defense situations and martial arts competition. If you are serious about your progress in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, it is highly recommended that you train in these classes as well.
Consistent with our other classes, a wrestling class at Modern Martial Arts and Fitness will feature a brief aerobic warm-up where you will prepare your body for exercise while simultaneously becoming familiarized with many of the essential movements performed in wrestling techniques. This warm-up will be followed by a demonstration of several wrestling techniques, which will then be practiced by all of the class participants. Finally, the last portion of the class will allow for the testing of techniques in live sparring, performed at a safe and controlled pace. Please note that live sparring is never required, and students may always choose to use this time to continue practicing techniques with a partner, if they so choose.
